The New York Times is reporting that a New Jersey couple has been killed and a woman wounded after a gunman opened fire in a Queens apartment building early Sunday morning.
The shooter, who police identified as 29-year-old James Burch, was shot multiple times in the face and died at a local hospital, according to NBC News.
He is reportedly the first suspect in the attack, according the New York Post.
The New Jersey shooting happened shortly after midnight, just before midnight in Queens.
The Times reports that the victims’ identities have not yet been released.
The couple, who were both attending a wedding, were killed at the scene.
It’s unclear if they were both victims of an attempted murder or a separate incident.
The Post reports that police have not released the names of the victims, but they have identified the victims as a father and his two children, ages 5 and 9.
The newspaper says that the incident happened at a flat in the 100 block of West 45th Street, a building with about 20 units.
The building was evacuated, and the apartment complex was locked down.
The NYPD tweeted that it is working with law enforcement to “address all of the facts of this tragic incident.”
